Key Features:Examples have been provided to maintain the balance between different disciplines of engineering. Robust control, Robotic control and Robotic modeling introduced. PID learning procedures illustrated. Updation of obsolete technology with examples. State variable formulation and design simplified. Digital control, both classical and modern approaches, covered in depth. Chapters on Nonlinear Systems, Adaptive, Fuzzy Logic and Neural Network Control included. An appendix in MATLAB with examples from time and frequency domain analysis and design included.About the Book:The book provides an integrated treatment of continuous and discrete-time systems for two courses at undergraduate level or one course at postgraduate level. The stress is on the interdisciplinary nature of subject and examples have been drawn from various engineering disciplines to illustrate the basic system concepts. A strong emphasis is laid on modeling of practical systems involving hardware; control components of a wide variety are comprehensively covered. Time and frequency domain techniques of analysis and design of control systems have been exhaustively treated and their interrelationship established.Adequate breadth and depth is made available for second course. The coverage includes digital control systems: analysis, stability and classical design; state variables for both continuous and discrete-time systems; observers and pole-placement design; Liapunov stability; optimal control; and recent advances in control systems: adaptive control, fuzzy logic control, neural network control.
Dr. I J Nagrath was Adjunct Professor, BITS, Pilani from where he retired in July 1999 as a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Deputy Director. He obtained his BE with Honours in Electrical Engineering from Birla Engineering College in1951, and MS from University of Wisconsin, USA in 1956.Dr. Nagrath had co-authored several successful books which include Electric Machines, Power System Engineering, Signal and System: Modelling and Analysis, and Control Systems Engineering. He had also published several research papers in prestigious national and international journals. Dr. M Gopal, Ex-Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, is a globally known academician with excellent credentials as author, teacher, researcher, and administrator. He is the author/co-author of five books on Control Engineering. His books are used worldwide, and some of them have been translated to Chinese and Spanish languages. His books have been serving as the major source of learning for four decades. As a teacher, his potential is being used globally through a video course (http://www.youtube.com/iit); one of the most popular courses on YouTube.A recognized researcher in the area of Machine Learning, Dr. Gopal is the author/co-author of over 150 research papers; the key contributions have been published in high impact factor journals. He has supervised 16 doctoral research projects. His current research interests are in the areas of Machine Learning, Soft-Computing Technologies, Pattern Recognition, and Intelligent Control. In administrative capacity, he contributed to the growth of a large department at IIT Delhi, as Head of the Department. As a Founding Director of the School of Engineering, Shiv Nadar University, he was involved in designing and building the academic infrastructure of the school.
